Beginning a child bearing at the age below 18 prospels consequences on health and social development. Teenage pregnancy remains a key concern in Cambodia as 1 in 8 women aged 15-19 have become mothers or are currently pregnant with their first child.

The lack of education, lack of sexual and reproductive health knowledge, lack of understanding of the social and health implications and a consequence of community expectations and traditional mindsets are contributing factors to the pregnancy at a very young age. The pregnancy rate among girls aged 15-19 has increased from 8% in 2010 to 12% in 2014 and the percentage of rural girls is double that of urban girls.
