PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (12 Jan 2026). Making sure that health services can continue during times of crisis - including for mothers expecting babies is a key priority of the Ministry of Health and UNFPA. The Ministry of Health has been instrumental in maintaining service continuity, including through the deploying mobile health teams from other provinces and national hospital teams to provinces impacted by the border emergency.
Today, the Ministry of Health (MoH) of the Royal Government of Cambodia and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) held a handover ceremony of 70 Reproductive Health kits. These critical supplies ensure that women and newborns can access life-saving interventions, even during difficult times.
The 70 Reproductive Health kits, delivered to the Central Medical Store, include a range of medical equipment and medicines designed for emergency obstetric and newborn care:
- Clean Delivery Kits (Kit 2B): 19 Kits to support safe births at relocation sites and within the community.
- Clinical Delivery Assistance (Kit 6A & 6B): 18 Kits (9 of each) providing both reusable equipment and essential medicines for health facilities.
- Emergency Obstetric Care (Kit 11A & 11B): 6 Kits (3 of each) to manage surgical obstetric complications at provincial referral hospitals.
- Specialized Kits: Including equipment for the management of miscarriage complications (9 Kits), repair of cervical and vaginal tears (9 Kits), and vacuum extraction delivery (9 Kits).
“The Ministry of Health is committed to ensuring that every citizen, especially those affected by conflict, has equitable access to quality healthcare services,” said H.E. Prof. Chheang Ra, Minister of Health. “By strengthening our emergency preparedness and medical readiness along the border, we safeguard the well-being of mothers, infants, and vulnerable populations. This partnership with UNFPA is vital to our mission of achieving universal health coverage and ensuring that no one is left behind, even in times of crisis, and that women, mothers, and newborn are safe and healthy all the times”.
Ms. Sandra Bernklau, UNFPA Representative, added, “I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Health for the commitment and leadership in ensuring health care services are available for all people in need, particularly women and girls in challenging circumstances. These Reproductive Health kits contribute towards ensuring that all mothers and newborn babies are supported during emergencies.”
H.E. Prof. Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, accepted the kits on behalf of the Royal Government, emphasizing the importance of partnership in addressing the needs of vulnerable populations, including returning migrants and internally displaced persons.
