Cambodia’s Golden Opportunity: Investing in Our Youth Today for a Stronger Tomorrow

Cambodia is currently a youthful country. However like many countries around the world, our demographic path is changing. Today, we are a young, dynamic country with large working-age population who are ready to drive our economy forward. This unique moment gives us a powerful advantage—a "Demographic Dividend" where our workforce outnumbers those who are dependent. To make the absolute most of this moment, our most important step is to invest in our young people right now. We can achieve this by focusing on a few clear priorities:

  • Quality Education & Modern Skills: Equipping youth with education and training including 21st-century skills so they can have the information and skills needed for Cambodia’s workforce.
  • Health & Well-being: Ensuring comprehensive healthcare, including reproductive health, so young people can remain healthy in their productive years and in their older years.
  • Strong Support Systems: Expanding social protections and employment opportunities so no one is left behind.

Why this matters for our future:

A successful, healthy, skilled workforce today is our best strategy to meet the demands of the future. By setting up our young people for financial and personal success now, we are building a resilient, stable country for tomorrow. When our population shifts and the number of elderly people increases by 2050, we need to be prepared to care for all generations. By empowering our youth today, we can better guarantee a healthy and resilient population in the future.
