Following the ban on prostitution in 2008, all brothel-based services were crack-downed. Consequently, new  forms of sex work were formed such as karaoke clubs or bars, beer gardens, snookers clubs and massage parlors.

The sex industry has changed rapidly to be more hidden with entertainment workers working in Karaoke bars, beer gardens, night-clubs etc.

Cambodida has a large young population now, more than 35% are aged between 10 and 24 years old. Many young people are on the move to look for better opportunitie in education and economics. Some young girls, in particular those with little education and skills, struggle to find a good job when they arrive at their destination. They may end up working a low-paid job or start as a hostess in entertainment places.
